Diane Quan

I am a UX designer based in Toronto, ON.

A curious being that wants to build a strong foundation of understanding what good UX design process should be like.

ABOUT ME

The most important thing you need to know about me is that, I am an very curious being who loves to spend countless hours communicating with Chatbots like Poncho!

My experience as an early childhood educator or even a team player -- Center Lineman for the Maple Wolves has given me the skills to succeed in my new field in User Experience, my communication skills have helped me express all of my UX design ideas. I've learned to grow to be someone who knows how to pass the ball by including others to work on common goals. I truly believe that Early Childhood Educators and User Experience Designers are meant for each other just as a "designer needs a developer."

David Sadker once said "Behind every school and every teacher is a set of related beliefs--a philosophy of education--that influences what and how students are taught. A philosophy of education represents answers to questions about the purpose of schooling, a teacher's role, and what should be taught and by what methods.”

This is my philosophy and exactly how I feel about good UX design. And what it means to give great user experiences.

My passion for UX started while I was working as a Early Childhood Educator where I had the opportunity to communicate with the students at my after school program who are strongly passionate about technology. I was able to incorporate technology in our planned actives in order to engage students more into our lessons and interactive.

I love an idea or concept for the first time. Hence, I believe I can explore more and build a strong foundation on the basic practices on good user experience.

After hours… Like many, I am a person with multiple interest:

I'm a "foodinator" that has a sweet tooth and seeks new food experiences. My personal favourite is mixing Cheerios with matcha milk and red bean toppings.

I love attending conventions and have been an attendee for 5+ years! I gather where other fans of Japanese Animation and Video Games unite. It has the typical "geeky" and fun convention vibe, as most conventions do. I also take part as a senior staff member for Gallery Momiji at Anime North!

But lately...during my time at Bitmaker, I have gotten the opportunity to attend conventions, webinars, workshops, etc while meet amazing professionals in the tech & design community. (Besides going to MaRs in the morning and listening in to Panasonic's discussions about their dedication on multi - functional switches, extending wireless communication into their features within their products... and the type of material they use that conducts some form of thermochemical heating and cooling process -- helps the battery to not over heat as much when operating within a product..cool miniature demonstration with sample that looked like metal that cut through ice...its very different--ambience from a DevTalk!)

Finding new inspiration like strong women in the tech like Lisa Gelobter, Mina Markham , and Tammy Everts

One of my favourite activities during circle time other than doing sing along is reenact characters from various storybooks such as "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs written by Jon Scieszka.
